Daytime Volunteer Opportunities
  • Staff Appreciation - Over conference weeks we put out a spread of snacks for the teachers and staff at Garfield to say "Thank You".  A good volunteer opportunity if you love to cook or bake and have a couple minutes in the morning to drop something off at school (could also be sent to school with an older student).
  • Bulletin Boards - A great job for creative types.  Create fun, interesting, and informative bulletin boards for the PTA on a bi-monthly basis.
  • Field Day - This is a fun one!  The afternoon of one of the last days of school we put on a variety of fun and active events for students.
  • Scholastic Book Fair - We hope to hold a book fair twice this year (October & March during conference weeks) to raise money for the library.  We need help setting up, running the sale, and packing it up when we're done.  Most opportunities for this event are during the day.  If you love books and libraries, this might be the opportunity for you!   VOLUNTEERS ARE STILL NEEDED.
  • GTS Track Stars - We need volunteers to help run track stars during  your choice of Tuesday - Friday  morning recesses:   10:00-10:20   and/or  10:20   -   10:40.  The job includes marking lap cards, handing out charms, and  getting  to know great Garfield kids! VOLUNTEERS ARE DESPERATELY  NEEDED!
  • Holiday Spirit - We like to embrace the spirit of the holiday season at Garfield.  Holiday spirit is our program to help provide gifts for students and their families.  We need help sorting and  organizing  gifts and well as distributing them during the month of December.  VOLUNTEERS ARE STILL NEEDED.
  • Cookie Dough - Once a year we sell tubs of Cougar Mountain Cookie Dough as a  fundraiser.   We can use help off-loading, counting and sorting tubs.  This will occur around December 14th.
  • Popcorn Fridays - We’re looking for volunteers to sell popcorn on Fridays from 11:15-12:30.  Volunteer once a month or once a quarter, whatever works for you.  Bonus:   You’ll be every student’s favorite person!  VOLUNTEERS ARE STILL NEEDED.
  • Walk 'n Roll Coordinator - If exercise and the outdoors are your passion, we are looking for someone to coordinate with Intercity Transit's Walk 'n Roll program.  Walk 'n Roll is program to encourage families to walk to school.  Obligation would be a couple hours a month.  You could also add in the Student Bicycle Commuter Contest in May if you wanted to to more.  This program does need someone who has some flexibility and can be at Garfield during the school day.   You can find additional information on these programs here.

Evening Volunteer Opportunities
  • Movie Night - Through-out the year we offer a free movie night for Garfield families and need help with concessions.  Movie nights usually run from 6:30-8:30pm.
  • Fall Fling - This is our biggest event of the year.  Carnival-style celebration with games and activities for the whole family.  Usually requires around 70 volunteers.
  • Holiday Bingo - A night of bingo and prizes, along with snacks and Santa photos.  We estimate this event will require 20 volunteers.
  • Cookie Dough - Once a year we sell tubs of Cougar Mountain Cookie Dough as a fundraiser.   We can use help with the evening cookie dough order pick-up.

Make it Your Own from Home Volunteer Opportunities
  • Pavers - Help spread the word about our entryway pavers through the community.  Create and deliver flyers, talk to business owners, and help promote sales of our pavers.
  • Membership - Help recruit PTA members through flyers, e-mails, etc.  This is something you could really make your own.
  • Volunteers - Help recruit, take care of, and thank PTA volunteers.
  • Fundraisers - Work from home helping us to promote our various passive fundraisers: eScript (Safeway), Box Tops, Fred Meyer, Haggen, Target, Thriftway, and AmazonSmile.  This could involve creating flyers, sending e-mails, etc.  This is another good opportunity for creative types.
  • Certified Public Accountant - We are looking for a CPA who would be interested in volunteering to audit our books each July.  Would take 1-2 hours at most.
  • Spring Fundraiser - Usually in February/March we hold our other major fundraiser. We are looking to create a new, exciting fundraiser for this Spring. If you are a creative type interested in helping to create something new, we could use your help!
